Dylan Terpstra Finishes 18th in the 400 Meters at the NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field Championships

Hope College junior Dylan Terpstra competed in the 400 meters on the opening day of the NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field Championships on Friday in Birmingham, Alabama.

The junior from Hudsonville, Michigan (Hudsonville) clocked 48.90 seconds during the preliminary round while racing against a deep national field and finished 18th overall in the event.

Head coach Jordan Bartolazzi said Terpstra's national appearance capped an indoor season of significant growth.

"First, I am so proud of Dylan Terpstra and the season he had," Bartolazzi said. "He's grown so much as an athlete and as a leader, and I am just so proud that he was able to end his season at the national meet."

Bartolazzi said the race presented challenges early but will provide valuable experience moving forward.

Eight advanced to the finals on Saturday, March 14. Collin Conzemius of the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse led the field by posting a time of 46.92 seconds.

"The race was a tough one, we lost the battle for positioning, and it was just too much to come back from," Bartolazzi said. "But he learned a lot and will be ready to build on this outdoors."
