Men's Track and Field Finishes Runner-Up in MIAA Outdoor Preseason Coaches Poll

Hope College is projected to contend for a league championship this spring after finishing runner-up in the 2026 MIAA Men's Outdoor Track and Field Preseason Coaches Poll.

The Flying Dutchmen finished with 43 points and received one first-place vote, trailing only preseason favorite Calvin University, which collected 49 points and seven first-place votes.

After Hope, Trine University placed third with 37 points and was followed by Albion College (31), Adrian College (21), The University of Olivet (20), Kalamazoo College (14), and Alma College (9).

Hope will host the MIAA Outdoor Championships Monday-Tuesday, April 20-21, for combined events, and Thursday-Friday, April 30-May 1, for the remaining events.

Head coach Jordan Bartolazzi is in his first season. He led the Flying Dutchmen to a runner-up finish at the MIAA Indoor Track and Field Championships in February.

Junior Dylan Terpstra (Hudsonville, Michigan / Hudsonville) highlights the returning sprint group after winning the 2025 outdoor 400-meter dash and contributing to the conference-champion 4x400m relay, while also earning all-region honors in the 4x100m relay. 

Senior Erickson Kunzler (Marne, Michigan / Grand Rapids Catholic Central) captured the outdoor 800m title and earned all-region recognition. Junior Ian Petruska (Fort Collins, Colorado / Fort Collins) won the 1,500m with all-region honors. 


Sophomore Gavin Bush (Bloomfield Hills, Michigan / Birmingham Seaholm) contributed to Hope's first-place 4x400 relay. Sophomore Kevin Barifagok (Las Vegas, Nevada / Cristo Rey Santin Viator) earned all-region honors in the 400m hurdles. Senior Nolan Sanders (Midland, Michigan / H.H. Dow) also adds relay experience after earning all-region recognition in the 4x100m relay.
