Women's Track and Field Posts Four PRs at WashU Distance Carnival

The Hope College women's track and field team opened the outdoor season with four PRs during the Washington University in St. Louis Distance Carnival on Thursday and Friday.

The Flying Dutch excelled with three personal bests in the 5,000 meters and one in the 10,000 meters.

In the 5,000 meters, sophomore Mary England (Kalamazoo, Michigan / Kalamazoo Central) clocked Hope's best effort with a PR 17:24.54 that garnered her 35th place.

Junior Olivia Ippel (St. Joseph, Michigan / St. Joseph) finished next, going a PR 17:27.31 for 39th place. Freshman Miranda Sawvel (Laramie, Colorado / Centennial) went 18:28.80 for 103rd place.

Freshman Taylor Mitchell (Otsego, Michigan / Otsego) also posted a PR of 18:35.37 for 123rd place.

In the 10,000 meters, freshman Anna Sybenga (Grand Rapids, Michigan / Forest Hills Central) led by the Flying Dutch by clocking 37:34.35 for 34th place. Freshman Dylan Ballin (Broonville, Ohio / Brookville) went 37:48.79 for 37th place.

Senior Alexis Deighan (Birmingham, MIchigan / Seaholm) clocked a PR of 38:29.93 for 52nd place.

Hope next competes on Saturday, March 28, at the WashU Invite.
