Men's Track and Field Wins Three Events at WashU Invite

The Hope College men's track and field team posted three first-place performances at the Washington University in St. Louis Invite on Saturday.

The Flying Dutchmen won the discus, 800 and 5,000-meter runs.

In the discus, sophomore Aaron Hunt (Hudsonville, Michigan / Hudsonville) recorded a first-place toss of 46.45 meters (152-5) to 16-plus feet ahead of the nearest competitor.

In the 5,000, freshman Kaden Forward (Bear Lake, Michigan / Bear Lake) led a 1-2-3 Hope finish by clocking a run of 16:03.49.

Freshman Tyler Outlaw (Brighton, Michigan / Brighton) finished runner-up at 16:08.91. Senior Jack Layden (Plymouth, Michigan / Salem) took third at 16:17.8. Freshman Mason Sinke (Kaleva, Michigan / Onekema) took fifth at 16:29.1

In the 800 meters, senior Erickson Kunzler (Marne, Michigan / Grand Rapids Catholic Central) won with a run of 1:53.49, edging teammate and freshman Aiden Moore (Battle Creek, Michigan / Lakeview), who placed second at 1:54.31. Junior Tim Peterson (Portage, Michigan / Portage Northern) took fourth at 1:56.12.

Moore also recorded the fastest collegiate time in the 1,500, taking second behind an unattached runner at 3:52.91. Sophomore Elias Kretchmar (Granville, Ohio / Granville) was fifth at 3:56.46. Hope also placed runner-up in the 3,000-meter steeplechase: sophomore Noah Norris (Ann Arbor, Michigan / Washtenaw Academy) at 9:58.38. Junior Shane Pitcher (Saline, Michigan / Saline) took third at 10:07.53.

In the high jump, freshman Carter Marquard (Shelbyville, Michigan / Wayland) finished third at 1.89 meters (6-2 1/4).

Hope competes next on Friday, April 10, at 4:30 p.m. Central at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville's 5K Invitational.
