Women's Golf Drives into First-Round Lead at Spring Invitational

Led by junior Jaiden Winters and Rachael Jones, the Hope College women's golf team grabbed a first-round lead at its 36-hole, two-day invitational on Friday at The Ravines Golf Club in Saugatuck.

The Flying Dutch shot an opening round 338 and finished four strokes ahead of second-place Adrian College. Lake Forest College (347) is in third and followed by Calvin University and Alma College (358 apiece), and Hope's B team (360.

The final round is scheduled to tee off at 9:30 a.m. at Clearbrook Golf Club in Saugatuck.

Winters of New Carlisle, Ind. (New Prairie), carded a fourth-place, 10-over-par 82 to lead the Flying Dutch. Jones of Grove City, Ohio (Grove City), posted an 83 for fifth place. Alma's Sarah Ream tops the individual standings after a 76.

Junior Allyson Zuidema of Northville, Mich. (Northville) is tied for sixth after an 86. Junior Kyle Gernaat of Kalamazoo, Mich. (Kalamazoo Christian), finished one stroke back and is tied for eighth.

The Flying Dutch also received 88s from freshmen Gabby Hanover of Mason, Mich. (Mason) and freshmen Kennedy Gernaat of Kalamazoo, Mich. (Kalamazoo Christian), 89 from senior Sara Muir (Ada, MIch / Grand Rapids Christian), 91 from freshman Anelise Gatti of Brighton, Mich. (Brighton), 93 from freshman Jozie Mitran of Libertyville, Ill. (Libertyville), 94 from freshman Leah Krieger of Lowell, Mich. (Lowell), and 97 from junior Caydeen Constant of Grand Haven, Mich. (Grand Haven).
