Sophia Raymond Breaks School Record in the Hammer Throw

The Hope College women's track and field team delivered a record-breaking performance and multiple top-eight finishes at the Al Owens Classic, hosted by Grand Valley State University, on Saturday. 

Senior Sophia Raymond of Woodstock, Ill. (Woodstock), broke her own school record in the hammer throw, winning the event with a mark of 47.79 meters (156 feet, 9 inches). Raymond surpassed the previous record that she had set earlier this season while also moving to No. 48 in NCAA Division III.


Freshman Jaidyn Klimp of Galesburg, Mich. (Galesburg Augusta), recorded a pair of top finishes, placing third in the javelin throw with a mark of 36.08 meters (118-4), ranking No. 67 in Division III, and finishing sixth in the 100-meter hurdles in 14.95 seconds, a personal-best that ranks No. 35 nationally.


Sophomore Sofia Fisher of Lombard, Ill. (Montini Catholic), added a third-place finish in the 100 meters, clocking 12.10 seconds.


Senior Kamryn Bice of Monroe, Mich. (Monroe), placed fourth in the shot put with a throw of 12.06 meters (39-6 ¾) and added a seventh-place finish in the discus throw at 38.68 meters (126-11), a mark that ranks No. 80 in Division III.


Hope's 4x100-meter relay team of Ava Schmidt (Saline, Michigan / Saline), Sara Schermerhorn (Traverse City, Michigan / Traverse City West), Klimp, and Fisher finished fourth in 47.40 seconds, a time that ranks No. 12 nationally.


Junior Lucy James of La Grange Park, Ill. (Willows Academy) recorded a seventh-place finish in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a personal-best time of 12:39.29.


Senior Karly Roelofs of Kingsley, Mich. (Kingsley Area), placed seventh in the javelin throw with a mark of 30.30 meters (99-5).


Senior Natalie Christnagel of Grosse Ile, Mich. (Grosse Ile) cleared 1.57 meters (5 feet, 1 ¾ inches) to place seventh in the high jump.


Freshman Eliana Kotsonis (Menomonee Falls, Wis. / Hamilton) added a seventh-place finish in the triple jump with a mark of 10.60 meters (34-9 ½).


Hope will compete next at the "GINA" Relays, hosted by Hillsdale College from Thursday-Saturday, April 16-18.
