Frances Cozzens Sprints to Runner-Up, 400-Meter Time at Calvin Invite

The Hope College women's track and field team posted multiple top-eight finishes at the Calvin Knight Invite on April 18, including strong efforts in both sprint and field events.

Senior Frances Cozzens (Lyman, New Hampshire / Saint Johnsbury Academy) led the Flying Dutch with a runner-up finish in the 400 meters, crossing the finish line in 1 minute, 1.03 seconds.

Sophomore Clare Sherman (Ada, Michigan / Forest Hills Central) placed fifth in the event at 1:02.77. Freshman Adell Weseloh (Elmhurst, Illinois / York Community) finished seventh in 1:04.17.

Freshman Savana Monville (Auburn, Michigan / Bay City Western) added a fourth-place finish in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:07.04.

Senior Ava Schmidt (Saline, Michigan / Saline) recorded a fourth-place finish in the 100 meters, clocking 13.36 seconds, and also placed eighth in the 200 meters in 28.09.

Senior Kamryn Bice (Monroe, Michigan / Monroe) placed fifth in the shot put with a throw of 11.16 meters, while senior Karly Roelofs (Kingsley, Michigan / Kingsley Area) tied for eighth at 10.03 meters.

The Flying Dutch will compete next on April 20, at 11:30 a.m., in the MIAA Outdoor Championships – Combined Events Day 1, presented by Collegiate Credit Union, hosted by Hope at the Brewer Track. The two-day event concludes on Tuesday, April 21, at 11:30 a.m.
