Five Named MIAA Athletes of the Week

Five Hope College standouts have claimed MIAA Athlete of the Week accolades: Sofia Fisher and Jaidyn Klimp in women's outdoor track and field, Luke Bellino in men's outdoor track and field, Jack Balmforth in men's lacrosse, and Ireland Brown in women's lacrosse.

Balmforth, of Livonia, Mich. (Detroit Catholic Central), is the MIAA Men's Lacrosse Defensive Athlete of the Week for the first time this season and the third time in his career. The senior goalie helped the Flying Dutchmen to a 2–0 week with a 14–7 win at Transylvania and a 14–1 victory over Kalamazoo College by recording 22 saves. Balmforth recorded 19 saves and a .731 save percentage against Transylvania University, and three saves and .750 save percentage vs. Kalamazoo. The business major also excelled in clearing and commanded the defense, which allowed just eight total goals on the week.

Brown of DeWitt, Mich. (DeWitt), is the MIAA Women's Lacrosse Defensive Athlete of the Week for the first time. The sophomore midfielder anchored the Flying Dutch defensively during a 3–0 road week, playing a key role in transition defense and possession control. In a 23–9 win at Piedmont University, Brown recorded five ground balls and five caused turnovers. The elementary education major also caused a crucial turnover in transition during a 17–15 win at Calvin University and intercepted a goalie clear and added two ground balls during a 12–11 victory at Adrian while helping contain one of the league's top attackers.

Fisher, of Lombard, Ill. (Montini Catholic), is the MIAA Women's Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week for the first time. The sophomore clocked two personal-best times at the Centre College Invitational on Saturday in Kentucky. Fisher ran 12.04 seconds in the 100-meter dash and broke 25 seconds for the first time in the 200m dash with a time of 24.92. Her performances rank 16th and 24th nationally, respectively, and first and second in the MIAA.

Klimp, of Galesburg, Mich. (Galesburg-Augusta), is the MIAA Women's Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week for the first time. The freshman competed in her first career heptathlon at Troy University's Doc Anderson Invitational last week, scoring a school-record 4,826 points. The mark is the best in the MIAA in 19 years and included four personal-best performances. Klimp currently ranks first in the conference and second in the NCAA.

Bellino, of Brighton, Mich. (Brighton), is the MIAA Men's Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week for the first time. The freshman excelled in the 200m and 400m dash events at Troy, recording times of 21.81 in the 200m and 48.94 in the 400m. Bellino now leads the MIAA in both events.
