Men's Track and Field Sets Two Program Records at Augustana Last Chance Meet

Led by two record performances, the Hope College men's track and field team made its final push toward qualifying for the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships a strong one.

The Flying Dutchmen excelled at the Augustana College Midwest Twilight Qualifier on Wednesday and Thursday in Rock Island, Illinois.

Hope set school records in the 400-meter hurdles and the 4x100 relay with some of the nation's fastest times. The event was the last one before the field for the national meet is announced on Friday, May 15. The NCAA Division III Championships are Thursday-Saturday, May 21-23, at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse.

In the 400-meter hurdles, sophomore Kevin Barifagok of Las Vegas, Nevada (Cristo Rey Saint Victor) clocked Division III's third-fastest 400 hurdles time of the season at a first-place 51.52 seconds. He also eclipsed Nicholas Rink's 2011 program record of 52.54.

In the 4x100 relay, the Flying Dutchmen posted the third-fastest run in Division III this season with freshman Luke Bellino of Brighton, Michigan (Brighton), junior Dylan Terpstra of Hudsonville, Michigan (Hudsonville), freshman Maurice Streeter of Kalamazoo, Michigan of Kalamazoo, Michigan (Kalamazoo Central), and senior Nolan Sanders of Midland, Michigan (H.H. Dow) going 40.70.

The relay topped the Hope record of 40.84 set last season by Sanders, Terpstra, Alex Daniels and Liam Danitz.

Hope also recorded three more Top-6 performances.

In the 100 meters, Streeter placed fourth at 10.55.

In the 5,000 meters, sophomore Noah Norris of Ann Arbor, Michigan (Washtenaw Academy) finished fifth at 15:15.80.

In the 400 meters, Terpstra took sixth at 48.04.
