The Hope women's tennis team won four of the top divisions at the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Flighted Tournament it hosted this weekend.
The two-day event at Etheridge Tennis Complex wrapped up Saturday, with the Flying Dutch taking first in the A singles draw with freshman Nancy Benda of Birmingham (Seaholm HS) and the B singles draw with senior Mallory Smith of Grand Haven (Grand Haven HS).
Benda defeated teammate Claire Cooper, a sophomore from Williamston (Williamston HS) in the finals on a second-set injury default. Benda, who went 5-0 on the tournament, took the first set 6-4.
Smith also beat her teammate in the championship match of her flight, topping senior Stephanie Huffman of Grand Rapids (Forest Hills Eastern HS) by a 6-2, 6-1 margin.
In doubles, Benda teamed with junior Carli Capestany of Hudsonville (Hudsonville HS) to win the A doubles draw. In the finals, they beat Kalamazoo's Sarah Woods and Jenna Riehl 8-4.
Huffman and freshman Paige Courts of Caledonia (Grand Rapids South Christian HS) won the B doubles draw. They beat Albion's Marissa Cloutier and Margaret Sheets 8-2 in the finals.
Smith and sophomore Marie Holaway of Holland (West Ottawa HS) came back to win the consolation round of the A Doubles Draw.
