Hope Women's Tennis Reach Semifinals In Four Flights At Tournament

The Hope College women's tennis team reached the semifinals in four singles flights Friday during the first day of the Warhawk/Panther Invitational in Whitewater, Wisconsin.

The two-day tournament concludes today.

In the No. 1 flight, junior Claire Cooper of Williamston, Michigan (Williamston HS), defeated Olivet Nazerene's Victoria Monakhova 1-6, 6-3, 10-7 in their first-round match.

In the No. 3 flight, sophomore Kelly Daniel of Zeeland, Michigan (Zeeland East HS), beat Whitewater's Amanda Dick 6-3, 6-3 in first-round play.

In the No. 6 flight, freshman Natalie Rahrig of Fort Wayne, Indiana (Bishop Luers HS), topped Whitewater's Ashley Miller 6-4, 6-4.

In the No. 7 flight, junior Marie Holaway of Holland, Michigan (West Ottawa HS), claimed a 6-2, 6-3 first-round win against Whitewater's Caitlin Fitzgerald.

The Flying Dutch also finished third in one doubles flights and fourth in one other.

Senior Carli Capestany of Hudsonville, Michigan (Hudsonville HS), and Holaway took third after posting a 2-1 record together in Flight No. 2. They defeated Whitewater's Amy Upthagrove and Ashley Miller 8-7, 7-3 in the third-place match. 

Rahrig and sophomore Kate Mader of Granger, Indiana (Penn HS), placed fourth at Flight No. 3.
