Box Score 2 Centerfielder Autumn Anderson collected four hits for the Hope College softball team in a doubleheader loss at Wheaton (Ill.) College on Friday.
The Flying Dutch lost the first nonleague game 10-2 in five innings and the nightcap 8-5.
Hope, now 5-6 on the season, returns to action on Saturday, March 29, with a nonleague doubleheader at North Park (Ill.) that begins at 11 a.m. Central.
In the second game, Anderson went 3-for-4 from her leadoff spot to lead the Flying Dutch.
Hope jumped to a 4-0 lead in the top of the third in a rally that Anderson started with a leadoff triple. The sophomore from Dorr (Wayland HS) scored on a RBI single from sophomore shortstop Jenna Maury of Lawton (Lawton HS).
Four batters later, Maury came home on a run-scoring single from junior catcher Adalee Robertson of Flushing (Flushing HS). After freshman rightfielder Sammi Adams of Griffith, Ind. (Griffith HS), drew a walk, junior leftfielder Becca Phillips of Wayland (Wayland HS) drove in pinch-runner Natalie Leahy of Wheaton, Ill. (Wheaton North HS) and Robertson with a single.
Wheaton (12-4) answered with eight runs during its final two at-bats, scoring six runs in the sixth alone off freshman reliever Maddie Bellew of Jackson (Jackson HS),
In the first game, junior third baseman Kelsey Cooper of Romeo (Romeo HS) went 3-for-3 to lead the Flying Dutch. Hope scored two runs in the top of the first inning before Wheaton rallied with four runs in its half of the inning and the second off losing pitcher Kate Laverty (1-3).
