Hope Women's Tennis Fares Well At ITA Central Regiional Championships

The Hope College women's tennis team opened the 2014-15 season with a strong performance at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Central Regional Championships this weekend at Kalamazoo College.

In doubles, sophomore Nancy Benda of Birmingham, Michigan (Seaholm HS), and senior Carli Capestany of Hudsonville, Michigan (Hudsonville HS), reached the semifinals before bowing out. The top-seeded pair won four matches during the tournament.

Benda and junior Claire Cooper of Williamston, Michigan (Williamston HS), also reached the round of 16 in singles play. Both won three of four matches.

Two players won two matches apiece: junior Anna Garcia of Battle Creek, Michigan (Lakeview HS), and sophomore Kelly Daniel of Zeeland, Michigan (Zeeland East HS). Garcia won hers in the championship flight, while Daniel won hers in the consolation round.

Other players to win one match were: in singles, Capestany, sophomore Kate Mader of Granger, Indiana (Penn HS), and freshman Natalie Rahrig of Fort Wayne, Indiana (Bishop Luers HS), and in doubles, Cooper, pictured, and Garcia and Daniel and junior Marie Holaway of Holland, Michigan (West Ottawa HS).
