Hope Women's Tennis Tops Regionally Ranked Birmingham Southern

The Hope College women's tennis team swept doubles play to cap a 7-2 win against regionally ranked Birmingham Southern on Wednesday in Orlando, Florida.

The 27th-ranked Flying Dutch evened their record at 3-3 overall with their third consecutive victory on their spring break trip.

Hope opened the nonleague match by taking four of six singles flights.

Senior Anna Garcia of Battle Creek, Michigan (Lakeview HS) defeated Sarah Cohen at No. 2 singles 7-5, 6-4.

Junior Kate Mader of Granger, Indiana (Penn HS) beat McKenzie Courtney 7-6 (5), 7-5 at No. 4 singles.

Sophomore Natalie Rahrig of Fort Wayne, Indiana (Bishop Luers HS) claimed a 6-2, 6-3 win at No. 5 singles against Mary Evelyn Carroll.

Freshman Taylor LaBarge of Hudsonville, Michigan (Hudsonville HS) topped Mary Madison Taylor at No. 6 singles 6-3, 6-2.

In doubles play, the No. 1 team of junior Nancy Benda of Birmingham, Michigan (Seaholm HS) and senior Marie Holaway of Holland, Michigan (West Ottawa HS) scored an 8-6 win against Carlee Petro and Sara Cohen.

The No. 2 pairing of Garcia and LaBarge downed Isabella Wisener and Courtney 9-8 (5).

The No. 3 team of Mader and sophomore Amanda Susnak of Lowell, Michigan (Lowell HS) defeated Taylor and Carroll 8-6.

Hope completes its spring break trip on Friday, March 25 against Whitworth, Washington.
