A five-goal rally closed the fourth period and lifted the Hope College men's lacrosse team to a 13-11 nonleague win at Benedictine, Illinois on a chilly Saturday afternoon.

The Flying Dutchmen overcame an 11-8 deficit with 11 minutes, 16 seconds remaining to raise their record to 2-1 overall.

Freshman Rocco Mularoni of Hartland, Michigan (Detroit Catholic Central HS) scored three of his match-high six goals during the decisive surge for the Flying Dutchmen.

Mularoni struck for two unassisted goals in a span of 1 minute, 22 seconds to give Hope a 12-11 lead with 4:19 remaining.

Freshman Max Kuiper of Grand Rapids, Michigan (Forest Hills Central) iced the win by scoring his second goal of the game 53 seconds later.

Freshmen Nathaniel Hentschel of Spring Lake, Michigan (Spring Lake) and Andrew Pavey of Grand Rapids, Michigan (Forest Hills Eastern) chipped in two goals apiece.

Senior Gunnar Elder of East Grand Rapids, Michigan (East Grand Rapids) added three assists and one goal.

Freshman goalie Nick Schanhals of North Muskegon, Michigan (North Muskegon) made 10 saves.

Hope returns to action on Saturday, March 11 with the 3 p.m. home opener against Elmhurst, Illinois at Van Andel Soccer Stadium.
