The depth of the Hope College men's lacrosse team paid immediate dividends for the Flying Dutchmen on Saturday at Kalamazoo.

Goals from five different players in an opening 4 minute, 41-second span propelled Hope to a 22-7 victory.

The Flying Dutchmen grabbed a 5-0 lead and were on their way to raising their record to 9-3 overall and 4-0 in Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association play.

The nine wins matches the 2016 varsity record for wins in a single season.

Freshman Max Kuiper of Grand Rapids, Michigan (Forest Hills Central) topped Hope with four goals.

Kuiper, right, opened the match's scoring three minutes into the first period off an assist from senior Gunnar Elder of East Grand Rapids, Michigan (East Grand Rapids).

Elder finished with a match-high five assists and one goal. He now has 29 assists on the season - second only in Flying Dutchmen history to his 35 last season.

In the decisive opening stretch, Hope also received goals from freshman Rocco Mularoni of Hartland, Michigan (Detroit Catholic Central) off an assist from Elder, freshman Kyle Gaines of South Lyon, Michigan (Detroit Catholic Central) unassisted, sophomore Gino Battaglia of Lebanon, Ohio (Lebanon) off an assist from Elder, and freshman Andrew Caris of Hartland, Michigan (Detroit Catholic Central) off an assist from freshman Marshall VanBelkum of Rockford, Michigan (Rockford).

Mularoni totaled three goals — upping his team-high total to 36.

In all, 14 different players scored for Hope. The Flying Dutchmen are one-half game ahead of Albion (9-3, 3-0 MIAA).

Hope's next match is Saturday, April 22 at home at 1 p.m. vs. Olivet.
