Box Score
The Hope College men's lacrosse team is not done playing at home this season.
The Flying Dutchmen earned the No. 2 seed for next week's Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Tournament and will host a semifinal match after winning 12-10 at Trine on Saturday.
Hope (10-5 overall) won a tiebreaker for its seed after finishing in a three-way tie with Alma and Olivet for second place. All three teams went 5-2 in league play.
The Flying Dutchmen will host third-seeded Alma on Thursday at 7 p.m. at Van Andel Soccer Stadium. The winner advances to Saturday's championship match to face either top-seeded Albion or Olivet and play for a berth in the NCAA Division III Tournament.
Hope faced a must-win match against Trine (7-6, 3-4 MIAA).
The Flying Dutchmen scored the first two goals of the match and never trailed. The Thunder tied the score twice in the first half, but Hope pulled for good at 4-3 on a goal from Liam Turley midway through the second quarter.
Senior Gunnar Elder of East Grand Rapids, Michigan (East Grand Rapids) led Hope with three goals and one assist.
Elder now has 34 assists on the season — one within matching his 2016 school record.
Senior Zach Weber of Ann Arbor, Michigan (Pioneer) and sophomore Gino Battaglia of Lebanon, Ohio (Lebanon) chipped in two goals apiece.
Hope's 10 wins this season are the most by the Flying Dutchmen since they became a varsity spot in 2013.
This will be Hope's second MIAA Tournament appearance as the Flying Dutchmen join the inaugural 2013 varsity team as postseason qualifiers.
