Women's Swimming & Diving Places Eighth At Chicago's Phoenix Classic

The Hope College women's swimming & diving team took eighth place in four events this weekend during the University of Chicago's Phoenix Classic that featured NCAA Division I, II, and III teams.

The Flying Dutch finished eighth out of 10 teams with 191 points while only competing on Saturday in the three-day event.

In the 200 backstroke, sophomore Meg Peel of Spring Lake, Michigan (Spring Lake HS), pictured left, clocked a time of 2 minutes, 10.62 seconds in the A Final for an eighth-place effort.

Sophomore Emma Schaefer of DeWitt, Michigan (St. Johns), pictured right, came in eighth in the 100 breaststroke with a swim of 1:09.52.

Hope's 800 freestyle relay of Schaefer, Peel, senior Sydney Asselin of Holland, Michigan (Holland Christian), and senior Abigail Brinks of Commerce Township, Michigan (Walled Lake Northern) recorded an eighth-place effort of 8:15.18.

Senior Sara Plohetski of South Lyon, Michigan (South Lyon) placed eighth in 1-meter diving by posting an 11-dive total of 302.45 points.

The Flying Dutch put two swimmers in the 200 individual medley A Final: Peel ninth at 2:12.81 and Schaefer 10th at 2:15.91
