Women's Swim/Dive Wins Three Events At Five-Team Meet

Hope College's Meg Peel and Emma Schaefer swam to first-place performances during a five-team meet at Calvin College on Saturday.

Peel, pictured left, won the 100- and 200-yard backstroke. The sophomore from Spring Lake, Michigan (Spring Lake HS) clocked times of 58.02 seconds and 2 minutes, 5.97 seconds, respectively.

Schaefer, pictured right, topped the field in the 100 breaststroke. The sophomore from DeWitt, Michigan (St. Johns HS) recorded a swim of 1:08.35.

Hope also finished second in four events.

Peel was runner-up in the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:11.68. Junior Erin Emmert of Grand Blanc, Michigan (Flint Powers Catholic) took third in 2:15.12, while Schaefer came in seventh at 2:18.73.

Schaefer placed second in the 400 individual medley by posting a time of 4:43.19. Sophomore Hope Reynolds of Exon, Pennsylvania (Villa Maria) clocked a fourth-place effort of 4:55.92.

Peel and Schaefer led off the runner-up 200 medley relay. They teamed with senior Betsy Craig of Grand Rapids, Michigan (East Grand Rapids) and senior Sydney Asselin of Holland, Michigan (Holland Christian) for a time of 1:50.85.

Senior Sara Plohetski of South Lyon, Michigan (South Lyon) finished second in 1-meter diving with a score of 377.60 points. Sophomore Natalie Crandell of Okemos, Michigan (Lansing Christian) was fifth with 343.95 points.

Hope came in third in the 800 freestyle relay. Peel, Schaefer, senior Abigail Brinks of Commerce Township, Michigan (Walled Lake Northern), and Reynolds recorded a swim of 8:14.76.

Freshman Aubrey East of Farmington Hills, Michigan (North Farmington) placed fourth in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:36.72.

Junior Allison Eppinga of Saline, Michigan (Saline) posted a fourth-place 100 backstroke of 1:01.58.

Asselin, Eppinga, Schaefer, and Peel took fourth in the 400 freestyle relay after a time of 3:43.79.

Hope came in fourth in the team standings with 520 points.

The Flying Dutch's next meet is Friday, November 9 with a Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association dual meet at Olivet College.
