Men's Lacrosse Has Four-Game Win Streak Broken, Loses at Illinois Wesleyan

The Hope College men's lacrosse team had its four-game win streak snapped on Saturday with a 20-10 loss to Illinois Wesleyan University in Bloomington, Illinois.

The Flying Dutchmen's record falls to 5-2 while the Titans move to 6-1.

Hope played catch up the entire game. Illinois Wesleyan jumped out to a 3-0 lead before junior Andrew Pavey of Grand Rapids (Forest Hills Eastern) scored unassisted for the Flying Dutchmen with 7:21 to go in the first quarter.

Sophomore Luke Elder of East Grand Rapids (East Grand Rapids HS) netted two first-quarter goals for Hope to make the score 5-3 after the first 10 minutes.

The second quarter was Hope's undoing. The Titans scored eight goals to the Flying Dutchmen's one. By half, lllinois Wesleyan held a nine-goal lead, 13-4, from which Hope could not recover.

Junior attacker Rocco Mularoni of Hartland (Detroit Catholic Central) led the Flying Dutchmen offense with four goals. Junior defender Andrew Caris of Hartland (Detroit Catholic Central) led Hope's defense with seven ground balls.

The Flying Dutchmen next play on Friday, March 29 at home against Northland College (Wisconsin). Game time is 5 p.m.
