Hurdler Josh Izenbart and 800-Meter Runner Owen Ljung Win Events At Wheaton Invite

Josh Izenbart and Owen Ljung both clocked winning performances to lead the Hope College men's outdoor track & field team to a third-place finish at the 15-team Wheaton College (Illinois) Invitational on Saturday.

Izenbart, pictured left, a junior from Glenwood, Illinois (Homewood-Flossmoor HS) won the 110-meter hurdle final in 15.60 seconds.

Ljung, pictured right, a junior from Sonoma Valley, California (Sonoma Valley), clocked a first-place, 800-meter run of 1:54.08.

The Flying Dutchmen totaled 82 points to finish 4 ½ points ahead of fourth-place Wheaton.

Izenbart came in third in the javelin with a toss of 47.5 points (155 feet, 10 inches), fourth in the 400 hurdles with a time of 56.70 seconds and fourth in the high jump at 1.92 meters (6-3 ½).

Sophomore Ethan Larson of Glen Ellyn, Illinois (Glenbard West) finished third in the high jump at 1.92 meters (6-3 ½) and won a tiebreaker over Izenbart.

Izenbart was joined by senior Tucker Gibbons of Fowlerville, Michigan (Fowlerville) in scoring the 400 hurdles. Gibbons was fifth at 57.33.

Senior Collin Thomas of Novi, Michigan (Novi) finished fourth in the 400 meters with a season-best run of a 50.26 seconds. Sophomore Terrell Solberg of Traverse City, Michigan (T.C. Central) was eighth at 51.25.

Solberg, Thomas and Ljung teamed with senior Matt Ruff of Wayne, Illinois (Wheaton Academy) for a fourth-place 4x400 relay of 3:23.12.

Senior Ben Turner of Albion, Michigan (Olivet) came in fourth in the pole vault by clearing 4.50 meters (14-9).

Senior Chase Gaca of Kingsley, Michigan (Kingsley Area) took fourth in the discus with a toss of 40.69 meters (133-6). He was seventh in the hammer throw at 41.67 meters (136-8).

Junior Ty Hergenreder of Davison, Michigan (Goodrich) finished sixth in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:59.32.

Freshman Nick Hoffman of Holland, Michigan (Holland) placed sixth in the 1,500 meters by clocking a time of 4:00.56.

Gibbons came in seventh in the long jump at 6.27 meters (20-7) and the triple jump at 12.86 meters (42-2 ¼).

Junior Adam Howard of Jacksonville, Illinois (Routt Catholic) recorded an eighth-place, 100-meter run fo 11.32 seconds.

Sophomore Noah Russo of Grand Rapids, Michigan (East Grand Rapids) was eighth in the shot put with a heave of 13.32 meters (43-8 ½).

Hope's next week is the Huntington University (Indiana) Invitational on Saturday, April 13.
