It was a decisive second-quarter streak that propelled the Hope College men's lacrosse team to another win on Wednesday night, defeating Adrian College 17-5.
Senior Colton Warren of Hudsonville (Hudsonville HS) put the Flying Dutchmen on the board with 6 minutes and 52 seconds to go in the first quarter. Junior midfielder Liam Cunningham of South Lyon (Detroit Catholic Central) followed with another goal less than a minute later, establishing a lead that Hope maintained for the remainder of the game.
The road win was the first game for Hope after two weeks off due to Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association COVID-19 protocols. It was also their first MIAA match, improving their overall record 7-0, and conference record 1-0.
Jack Radzville led the Flying Dutchmen in scoring with five goals and three assists. The junior attacker of Howell (Howell HS) also tied freshman midfielder Sean Cunningham of South Lyon (Detroit Catholic Central) in ground balls with four for the game.
The Bulldogs fought hard on groundballs, but Hope had a slight advantage with 33-30 for the night.
Hope went into the second quarter with a 3-2 lead, but a goal by Michael Mann, pictured right, 30 seconds into the quarter kicked off seven unanswered goals by the Flying Dutchmen. The freshman attacker of Plymouth (University of Detroit-Jesuit) had another goal for the game and led with seven assists.
In goal, junior Ian Bosman of Centennial, Colorado (Cherry Creek HS) had six saves, and sophomore John Shea of Commerce Township (Detroit Catholic Central HS) had three.
Hope blanked the Bulldogs in the fourth quarter, scoring four goals to close off their victory. Sophomore Alex Goodall of Clarkson (Lutheran Northwest) recorded two of those, tallying a total of three goals for the game.
Defensively, Hope caused 11 turnovers, with sophomore midfielder Jake Maibuecher of Chicago, Illinois (Notre Dame Prep) leading at three.
Hope returns home for their next match on Saturday, April 17 against Albion College at 3 p.m.
