The Hope College men's lacrosse team connected early and maintained a strong lead in their Senior Day win against Kalamazoo College on Tuesday night
Colton Warren scored the first of 10 unanswered goals by the Flying Dutchmen three minutes and 18 seconds into the first quarter. The senior midfielder of Hudsonville (Hudsonville HS) also scored the final goal of the game with three minutes and 24 seconds remaining.
Senior midfielder Luke Elder of Grand Rapids (East Grand Rapids HS) led in scoring with a career-high seven goals.
The 21-9 win improves Hope's record to 8-1 overall and 2-1 in MIAA play. It also tied the stadium record for most goals scored in a game at Van Andel Soccer Stadium.
Elder's sseven goals tied Hope's stadium record for goals by an individual.
The Hornets got on the board five minutes and 31 seconds into the second quarter, but Hope answered back with two goals by juniors Zach Wiggins of Kalamazoo (Mattawan HS) and Jack Radzville of Howell (Howell HS).
Radzville also played a key role in scoring, tallying four goals and five assists for the game.
Prior to the game, Hope honored four seniors: Elder, Warren, Peter Reynolds and Adam Bell.
Hope dominated in groundballs 61-38, with freshman Jack Cervantes, pictured left, of Canton (Canton HS) and sophomore Max Zimmerman, pictured right, of Bloomfield Hills (Detroit Country Day) both leading with nine pickups each.
At goal, junior Ian Bosman of Centennial, Colorado (Cherry Creek HS), sophomore John Shea of Commerce Township (Detroit Catholic Central), and Reynolds (Holland/Black River HS) each had three, five and two goals, respectively.
The Flying Dutchmen hit the road for their next game on Saturday, April 24 against Trine University. Game time is 1 p.m.
