Brian Marx found his target often for the Hope College men's golf team on Saturday at Lenawee Country Club.
The freshman from Bloomfield Hills, Michigan (Pontiac Notre Dame Prep HS) fired an even-par 71 amid windy conditions to claim medalist honors at the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Jamboree in Adrian, Michigan.
Marx, pictured, helped the Flying Dutchmen finish runner-up with a team score of 303. Hope came in eight strokes behind first-place Trine University.
Hope leapfrogged Calvin into second place in the overall standings after 36 holes. The Flying Dutchmen lead third-place Calvin by five strokes and trail first-place Trine by 18.
Head coach Scott Lokers said Marx's round was fun to be a part of.
"Incredible focus, more relaxed," Lokers said. "Brian has a lot of talent. He just let that come out today."
With three birdies and 12 pars during his round at Lenawee Country Club, Marx shot one stroke better than second-place Cameron Ruge of Trine.
Marx cut 11 strokes off his first collegiate round on March 27 at the opening MIAA Jamboree of the season.
Freshman Will Robson (Grand Rapids, Michigan/East Grand Rapids) tied for 11th after carding a 76.
Sophomore Tim Wageman (Chesterfield, Michigan/Saline) checked in one stroke behind Robson.
Sophomore Jack Crawford (Carmel, Indiana/Carmel) rounded out Hope's scoring with a 79.
The Flying Dutchmen also received an 82 from sophomore Seth Almquist of Minneapolis, Minnesota (Wayzata).
Playing as an individual, freshman Spencer Whittington of Birmingham, Michigan (Seaholm) carded an 87.
"The effort was really good," Lokers said. "This is a performance we can build on."
Hope's next event is the MIAA Jamboree the Flying Dutchmen are hosting on Monday, April 5 at Wuskowhan Players Club.
