The Hope College indoor men's track and field team placed first in four events, two apiece in field and running events, that propelled the Flying Dutchmen to a runner-up finish at the Aquinas College John Flaminio Classic on Friday.
The Flying Dutchmen totaled 121 points. Aquinas finished first in the five-team event with 156 points.
David McHugh led Hope with two winning performances
The senior from Whitehall, Michigan (Muskegon Reeths-Puffer HS) sprinted to a first-place effort in the 400 meters of 53.10 seconds.
McHugh also won the triple jump, leaping 12.68 meters (41 feet, 7 ¼ inches).
Junior Nathan Woolum (Mattawan, Michigan / Mattawan) raced to a first-place finish in the 200 meters of 23.45 seconds.
Junior Zach Elmore (Cadillac, Michigan / Cadillac) won the pole vault by clearing 3.90 meters (12-3 ½).
McHugh led a 1-2 Hope finish in the triple jump. Senior Eric Salisbury (Zeeland, Michigan / Zeeland West) was runner-up at 12.09 meters.
McHugh also placed second in the long jump at 5.89 meters (19-4).
Woolum led a 1-2-3 Hope finish in the 200. Senior Nathan Trumble (Greenlawn, Indiana / Trinity School at Greenlawn) took second at 23.51 seconds. Freshman Alex Daniels (Holland, Michigan / Holland) was third at 24.33.
Junior Jackson Player (San Antonio, Texas / Winston Churchill) clocked a runner-up, 60-meter hurdle time of 9.00 seconds.
Hope's next meet is Friday, January 28, at the Grand Valley State University Bill Clinger Classic.
