The Hope College men's lacrosse team rode a six-goal performance by
Zach Wiggins Saturday to post a 16-7 non-conference victory over Carthage College in Kenosha, Wisconsin.
The Flying Dutchmen improved to 7-2 on the season.
Wiggins, a senior from Kalamazoo, Michigan {Mattawan HS), scored four of his six goals in the first quarter as the Flying Dutchmen took a 5-3 lead over the Firebirds.
In the second quarter, Wiggins, pictured, scored his fifth goal of the contest, sandwiched around tallies by freshman James Conlon of Grand Rapids, Michigan {The Hill Academy) and senior Brian Bera of Rockford, Michigan [Rockford) as Hope led 8-4 at the half.
Wiggins' six goals were the most by any Hope player in a game so far this season. He now has a team-leading 27 goals in the Flying Dutchmen's first nine games.
Senior Jack Radzville of Howell, Michigan (Howell) added three goals for Hope and assisted on four other tallies.
Sophomore Michael Mann of Plymouth, Michigan (University of Detroit Jesuit) scored twice and added two assists while scooping up six ground balls.
Junior Alex Goodall of Clarkston, Michigan (Lutheran Northwest) chipped in with two goals.
Senior Cole Scheffler of Rockford, Michigan (Rockford) won 19-of-26 faceoffs while picking up seven ground balls.
Sophomore Jack Cervantes of Canton, Michigan (Canton) had seven ground balls.
The Flying Dutchmen outshot the Firebirds. 42-22, in the contest and forced 23 Carthage turnovers.
Hope returns to action on Wednesday, March 30, for a 6 p.m. contest against NCAA Division II opponent Davenport University on the Panthers' home field in Caledonia.
