Men's Track and Field Wins Two Events, Places Third at Emory Spring Break Classic

Powered by two first-place performances on Saturday, the Hope College men's track and field team secured a third-place finish at the Emory University Spring Break Classic in Atlanta, Georgia.

The Flying Dutchmen won three events during the two-day meet at Morehouse College, including, on Saturday, the javelin and the 10,000-meter run.

With 96.5 points, Hope finished only behind meet champion Emory (102 points) and runner-up Reinhardt University, Ga. (98.5).

Junior Aidan Kyle (Weston, Connecticut / Weston HS) captured the javelin title with a first-place toss of 51.23 meters (168 feet, 1 inch).

The Flying Dutchmen recorded three of the top four javelin throws. Sophomore Wil Pinkerton (Ann Arbor, Michigan / Pioneer) finished third at 48.63 meters (159-6). Freshman Matthew Bir (Wenatchee, Washington / River Academy) took fourth at 46.82 meters (153-7).

In the 10,000 meters, freshman Shane Pitcher (Saline, Michigan / Saline) recorded a winning run of 34 minutes, 22.68 seconds.

Hope scored in seven more events.

In the 1,500 meters, sophomore Owen Harries (Lexington, South Carolina / Lexington) recorded a third-place time of 4:12.54.

The 4x800 relay of junior Connor Vachon (Jenison, Michigan / Jenison), junior Tyler King (Villa Park, Illinois / Willowbrook), junior Lucas Guidone (Chicago, Illinois / Taft) and sophomore Carston Cole (Holland, Michigan / West Ottawa) placed with a time of 8:01.95.

The 4x400 relay of junior Alex Daniels (Holland, Michigan / Holland), sophomore Liam Danitz (West Branch, Michigan / Ogemaw Heights), junior Joshua Ennen (Zeeland, Michigan / Zeeland West) and senior Nathan Woolum (Mattawan, Michigan / Mattawan) finished fourth at 3:19.10.

In the 110 hurdles, senior Jackson Player (San Antonio, Texas / Winston Churchill) posted a fifth-place run of 15.92 seconds. Woolum took seventh at 16.27.

In the triple jump, Woolum placed fifth with a leap of 13.34 meters (43-9.25).

The 4x400 relay of Daniels, Woolum, Ennen and Danitz took seventh with a time of 42.74 seconds.

In the pole vault, freshman Kiel Reister (Hamilton, Michigan / Hamilton) tied for eighth after clearing 3.85 meters (12-7.5).

Hope's next event is Friday-Saturday, March 22-23, at the Polar Bear Classic hosted by Indiana Wesleyan University.
