Men's Golf Ties for Fourth Place at 37-team Illinois Wesleyan Invitational

Junior Will Webb and sophomore Liam Casey carded 2-over-par 73s to top the Hope College men's golf team on Saturday during the final round of the 36-hole, two-day Illinois Wesleyan University Spring Invitational.

The Flying Dutchmen finished tied for fourth place at the 37-team event at 26-over-par.

Fourth-ranked Illinois Wesleyan won the two-course tournament after finishing at 4-under.

Casey (Northville, Michigan / Detroit Catholic Central HS) tied for 16th place out of 217 golfers at 4-over for the tournament. 

On Saturday, Casey recorded four birdies, six bogeys and eight pars at the 6,915-yard Weibring Golf Club. On Friday, Casey posted a 74 at the 6,901-yard Ironwood Golf Course.

Webb (Lake Forest, Illinois / Lake Forest) tied for 25th overall at 6-over. Webb recorded one birdie and three bogeys during his Saturday round.


Senior Logan DeWitt (Zeeland, Michigan / Holland Christian) also tied for 25th. DeWitt posted a 77 on Saturday.

Junior Will Robson (Grand Rapids, Michigan / East Grand Rapids) tied for 58th at 10-over. Robson shot a 78 on Saturday.

Junior Ben Jackson (Fort Wayne, Indiana / Blackhawk Christian) and sophomore Patrick Michael (Carmel, Indiana / Carmel) tied for 85th at 14-over.

Jackson chipped in a 76 on Saturday. Michael had an 80.

Hope shared fourth place with No. 21-ranked University of Wisconsin-Claire, Saint John's University (Minn.) and Aurora University (Ill.).

The group placed six strokes behind runner-up and No. 8-ranked Bethel University (Minn.) and two strokes behind Illinois Wesleyan's 'B' team.

The Flying Dutchmen's next event is the inaugural Bob Ebels Invitational on Friday-Saturday, April 19-20, at The Meadows Golf Club in Allendale, Michigan. Ebels served as the Hope men's golf coach for 26 seasons before retiring after the 2016-17 season.

Ebels guided the Flying Dutchmen to 10 NCAA Division III Men's Golf Championship appearances during his tenure, including each of his final four seasons. Nine of the trips to nationals came in the past 12 seasons. Hope finished in the Top 10 twice at nationals: sixth in 2017 and ninth in 2009.
