Men's Lacrosse Claims IMLCA Region 5 Coaching Staff of the Year Accolades

The Hope College men's lacrosse coaching staff has been named the NCAA Division III Region 5 Coaching Staff of the Year by the Intercollegiate Men's Lacrosse Coaches Association.

Head coach Michael Schanhals and assistant coaches Chris Scheldt, Nick Schanhals and Pablo Peschiera guided the Flying Dutchmen to a 13-4 overall record and second consecutive national tournament appearance this spring.

Hope went undefeated in MIAA play to capture an outright league championship and repeated as MIAA Tournament champions.

Four Flying Dutchmen claimed IMLCA honors: first-team attacker Michael Mann (Plymouth, Michigan / University of Detroit Jesuit HS), second-team long stick midfielder Luke Wierengo (Northville, Michigan / Northville), second-team goalie Jack Balmforth (Livonia, Michigan / Detroit Catholic Central) and honorable-mention midfielder Jackson Early (East Lansing, Michigan / East Lansing).

Nine Flying Dutchmen made the All-MIAA Teams, including Mann, the Offensive MVP.

Schanhals was named MIAA Men's Lacrosse Coach of the Year in May.
