FIve Selected as MIAA Athletes of the Week

Five Hope College student-athletes have been named MIAA Athletes of the Week: senior Caleigh Randall and sophomore Sarah Rott in women's lacrosse, senior Jackson Early and junior Gibson Heethuis in men's lacrosse, and senior Gianna Kerschbaum in softball.

Randall (Lansing, Michigan / DeWitt HS) is the MIAA Women's Lacrosse Specialist of the Week for the first time this season and the fourth time in her career. The senior midfielder helped the Flying Dutch win at Aurora University, 14–7, on Wednesday and 20–11 at home against DePauw University on Saturday. Randall recorded 14 draw controls over two games, including nine against DePauw. An elementary education major, she also scored twice in each game.


Rott (Grand Rapids, Michigan / Catholic Central HS) is the MIAA Women's Lacrosse Offensive Athlete of the Week for the first time in her career. The sophomore transfer from the University of Massachusetts Lowell totaled five goals and seven assists over two games last week. Rott, a biology major, recorded a season-best four goals and six assists against DePauw.


Early (East Lansing, Michigan / East Lansing HS) is the MIAA Men's Lacrosse Specialist of the Week for the first time this season and the third time in his career. The senior faceoff midfielder helped lead the Flying Dutchmen to two home victories last week: 15–3 against Carthage College on Friday and 14–6 against The College of Wooster on Saturday. Early went 11-of-12 (.917) at the X against Carthage and 16-of-19 (.842) against Wooster. The public accounting major collected 19 ground balls, two assists and one goal.


Heethuis (Hudsonville, Michigan / Hudsonville HS) is the MIAA Men's Lacrosse Offensive Athlete of the Week for the first time this season and the third time in his career. The junior attacker posted 10 goals and four assists over two games last week. Heethuis scored six goals against Carthage and four against Wooster. The biology major had two assists and one caused turnover in each game.


Kerschbaum (Baroda, Michigan / Stevensville Lakeshore HS) is the MIAA Softball Pitcher of the Week for the first time. The right-handed biology major posted a 2–0 record with two saves while making five appearances in the circle last week in Florida. Over 19.2 innings, Kerschbaum struck out 15 and walked seven, finishing the week with a 2.14 ERA.
