Liam Danitz Makes History with All-America 200-Meter Sprint at the NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field Championships

Hope College's Liam Danitz felt right at home with the nation's best sprinters.

The junior from West Branch, Michigan (Ogemaw Heights HS) made history as the first sprinter in program history to claim All-America accolades at the NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field Championships on Saturday in Rochester, New York.

A first-team nationals qualifier, Danitz finished fifth after clocking a time of 21.93 seconds during the finals at Nazareth University.

Head coach Kevin Cole expressed pride in Danitz's performance over two days of competition, including Friday's qualifying that featured 20 runners.

"He had a great national meet," Cole said of his exercise science major. "It's tough to come in your first time and place about where you were seeded. He exceeded expectations. I think he's confident in himself and knows what he can do. He seemed to be comfortable with the surroundings. Everything worked out really well."

Danitz is the first Hope sprinter to claim All-America honors since the 2016 outdoor 4x100 relay of Dion Goliday, Boone Marois, Matt Pelyhes and Justin Freeman.

The University of Wisconsin-LaCrosse's Sam Blaskowski won the national title with a run of 21.26 seconds.

Hope tied for 45th at the meet with four points.
