Volleyball Tops MIAA Preseason Coaches Poll

The Flying Dutch received six first-place votes

The Hope College volleyball team is favored to continue its reign as Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association champion.

Winners of the past two league titles, the Flying Dutch finished first in the 2025 MIAA Preseason Coaches Poll. Hope collected six of eight possible first-place votes and totaled 10 points.

Coaches could not vote for their teams. 
Calvin University placed second with 13 points and three first-place votes. Rounding out the poll were Albion College (22), Trine University (30), Adrian College (35), Alma College (40), Saint Mary's College (51), the University of Olivet (56) and Kalamazoo College (62).

Hope opens the 2025 season Friday, Aug. 29, at 6:30 p.m. against Ohio Northern University at DeVos Fieldhouse.


The Flying Dutch return several key players from a team that advanced to the NCAA Division III national semifinals and repeated as MIAA regular-season and tournament champion and swept all eight league opponents during the regular season.


Hope finished with a 30-3 overall record after falling to top-seeded Juniata University (Pennsylvania) to five sets.


Setter Lauren Lee (Plymouth, Michigan / Skyline HS) is a three-time American Volleyball Coaches Association All-American, including a second-team selection last season. The senior also earned AVCA All-Region and All-MIAA First Team honors as a junior.


Junior middle hitter Kamryn Burbridge (Grand Haven, Michigan / Grand Haven) is a two-time All-MIAA honoree.


Head coach Becky Schmidt '99 enters her 22nd season leading Hope. In 2024, Schmidt was named AVCA Region 7 Coach of the Year and MIAA Volleyball Coach of the Year. Associate head coach Carrie Lehocky '07 also was honored as the 2024 AVCA Division III Assistant Coach of the Year.
