Women's Swim/Dive Claims All-America Honors in the 50 Freestyle and 400 Medley Relay

The Hope College women's swimming and diving team earned Second Team All-America honors in the 50-yard freestyle and the 400 medley relay Wednesday during Day 1 of the NCAA Championships in Indianapolis.

Senior Laurel Wasiniak (Northville, Michigan / Northville) finished 11th in the 50 freestyle after clocking 23.15 seconds in the consolation final at the Indiana University Natatorium.

The chemical engineering major also anchored the 11th-place 400 medley relay, teaming with freshman Makenzie Baldwin (Holland, Michigan / West Ottawa), senior Madi Remenschneider (Holland, Michigan / West Ottawa) and sophomore Emme D'Errico (Farmington Hills, Michigan / Farmington) for a time of 3:46.32.

The relay eclipsed their prelims time of 3:46.99.

The All-America honors were the ninth for Wasiniak and the first for Baldwin, D'Errico and Remenschneider.

Hope sits in seventh after Day 1 with 38 points. The four-day meet resumes Thursday, March 19, with 10 a.m. prelims and 6 p.m. finals.

Wasiniak will swim in the 200 freestyle. D'Errico and senior Katie Hermann (Canton, Michigan / Mercy) will race in the 400 individual medley. The Flying Dutch will also swim in the 200 freestyle relay.

Junior Laura Zupancic (Fort Collins, Colorado / Liberty Common) and freshman Grace Dawson (Jackson, Michigan / West Ottawa) will compete in 1-meter diving.
