Hailey Mellec Chosen as MIAA Softball Pitcher of the Week

Hope College pitcher Hailey Mellec has been named the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Softball Pitcher of the Week for the first time in her career.

The junior lefthander averaged 9 ½ strikeouts and 1.5 runs allowed last week during nine combined innings against Greenville College and host Millikin University in Decatur, Illinois.

Mellec recorded victories in both games and helped the Flying Dutch extend their winning streak to a season-high eight games.

On Friday, Mellec struck out a season-high 12 and yielded one unearned run during a five-inning complete game during a 9-1 victory against Greenville. She allowed two hits and two walks.

On Saturday, Mellec fanned seven and surrendered two runs during four innings in the circle. She earned a second victory for the weekend while giving up six hits and one walk.
