Softball's Macy Verbeek Named to NFCA Player of the Year Watchlist

Hope College utility player Macy Verbeek has been selected to the 2026 National Fastpitch Coaches Association Division III Player and Pitcher of the Year watchlist.

The junior from Grandville, Michigan (Calvin Christian) is one of 118 student-athletes from across the country chosen and one of five from the MIAA. The list is compiled by the elected members of the NFCA Division III All-America Committee, with one head coach representing each region.

Verbeek has anchored Hope's lineup with a .426 batting average and 29 hits through 22 games. The exercise science major has totaled 19 RBIs, eight extra-base hits, and a .559 slugging percentage.

Defensively, Verbeek has contributed a .981 fielding percentage with 82 putouts and 19 assists while catching and playing in the field.

Hope begins MIAA play this week with a 17-5 overall record. The Flying Dutch are on a 12-game winning streak, tied for the third-longest in team history.

The NFCA Player of the Year award was established in 2016 to recognize outstanding achievement in NCAA Division III softball. In 2019, the association expanded the honor to include both Player and Pitcher of the Year awards.

The 2026 NFCA Player of the Year and NFCA/Portolite Pitcher of the Year recipients will be announced on May 27, prior to the start of the NCAA Division III World Series.
