Seniors Jake Hunt of Muskegon (Mona Shores HS) and Alexander Perkins of Brighton (Howell HS) are joining select company as captains of the Hope men's swimming & diving team in the 2013-14 season.
Hunt, a psychology major, swims the 100 and 200-yard butterfly as well as the 50 and 100-yard freestyle. Hunt will lead the way for the Dutchmen flyers and will add depth in the sprint freestyles, Hope coach John Patnott said. Hunt brings determination, a strong work ethic, and integrity to the team. Hunt's strongest asset as a captain is the respect and trust he receives from the team. They know he trains hard and that he lays it on the line every time he races.
Alexander Perkins, an engineering mamjor, swims the 100 and 200-yard breaststroke as well as the 200-yard individual medley. Alex made a NCAA Division III "B" cut in the 100-yard breaststroke last season and will look for more this year. Perkins leads by example, Patnott said. His work ethic is highly respected. He also brings integrity to the team and is well trusted by his teammates. The team knows that when Alex races he leaves it all in the pool every time.
