Flying Dutchmen Second At Wheaton Quad Meet
The Hope men's swimming & diving team won three events to finish second at the Wheaton (Ill.) quad meet on Saturday.
The Flying Dutchmen finished with 453.5 points, 14 more than third-place Kalamazoo. Lake Forest (Ill.) won with 500 points, while Wheaton (434) was fourth.
Hope senior Jake Hunt of Muskegon (Mona Shores HS) posted the best efforts in two events. He won the 100 freestyle in 47.71 seconds, while teammate Andrew Larson of Jackson (Jackson HS) was second in 48.18.
Hunt also tied for first in the 50 freestyle. He posted a time of 21.89 seconds, as did Kalamazoo's Dylan Shearer.
Hunt swam the second leg of the 400 freestyle relay that placed first. Freshman Zach Diener of Lake Orion (Lake Orion HS), Hunt, junior Will Greenlee of Northville (Northville HS) and Larson posted a time of 3:11.55.
The Flying Dutchmen also took second in two more events.
Diener finished runner-up in the 200 freestyle in 1:46.39.
Freshman Dan Sullivan of Columbus, Ohio (Upper Arlington HS), was second in the 200 backstroke in 2:01.96.
Flying Dutchmen Diver Sweeps At Calvin
Diver Jean-Luc Miralda won two events during a meet at Calvin on Saturday.
The freshman from Tegucialpa, Honduras (Honduras American), finished first in both the 1-meter and 3-meter events.
Miralda posted a winning score of 416.95 points on the 1-meter board.
On the 3-meter board, Miralda totaled a score of 387.65 points.
