The Hope College men's swimming & diving team opened the 2014-15 season with one second-place finish and four third-place ones at the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Relays on Saturday.

It was a non-scoring meet at Holland Community Aquatic Center.

The Flying Dutchmen took second in the 200-yard backstroke. Sophomore Christian Otteman of Zeeland, Michigan (Zeeland East HS), sophomore Danny Sullivan of Columbus, Ohio (Upper Arlington HS), freshman Charles Emmert of Grand Blanc, Michigan (Flint Powers Catholic HS), and Mike Wurster of Indianapolis, Indiana (Brebeuf Jesuit Prep) posted a time of 1 minute, 41.69 seconds.

Hope finished third in the 200 breaststroke relay. Freshman Nick Olen of Midland, Michigan (Lyons Township HS), sophomore Trevor Wagoner of Hixson, Tennessee (McCalle HS), sophomore Jonathon Maat of Holland, Michigan (Holland HS) and junior Jeff Zita of Holland, Michigan (Holland Christian HS), went 1:54.46. 

The Flying Dutchmen placed third in the 500 freestyle relay. Junior Trevor Billinghurst of Spring Lake, Michigan (Spring Lake HS), sophomore Ryan Johnson of Milford, Michigan (International Academy), junior Duncan MacLean of Grand Rapids, Michigan (East Grand Rapids HS), and senior Chris Waechter of Ventura, California (Foothill Tech), clocked a time of 4:22.08.

Hope took third in the 200 butterfly relay. Zita, Johnson, Nathan Rommel and Emmert clocked a time of 1:38.11. 

The Flying Dutchmen recorded a third-place time in the 1,500 freestyle relay. Otteman, junior Troy VanPortfliet of Grand Rapids, Michigan (Grand Rapids Christian) and MacLean went 15:41.66.
