The Hope College men's swimming & diving team finished runner-up in three events and moved up into second place at the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Championships on Thursday in Grand Rapids.
Coach John Patnott's Flying Dutchmen have 243 points and trail first-place Calvin College (290). Hope leads third-place Kalamazoo College by 28 points and fourth-place Albion College by 33.
The four-day meet at Calvin resumes on Friday.
Senior Jake Hunt of Muskegon (Mona Shores HS) led a 2-3 finish in the 50 freestyle for Hope by clocking a time of 20.98 seconds. Senior Andrew Larson of Jackson (Jackson HS) was third at 21.03.
Freshman diver Jean-Luc Miralda of Tegucigalpa, Honduras (Honduras American HS), placed runner-up in 1-meter diving. He had a score of 423.15 points.
The 200 freestyle relay of Hunt, junior William Greenlee of Northville (Northville HS), freshman Ryan Johnson of Milford (International Academy) and Larson clocked a second-place time of 1:23.84.
The 400 medley relay placed third. Freshman Christian Otteman of Zeeland (Zeeland East HS), Perkins, Hunt and Larson posted a time of 3:25.19.
Freshman Zach Diener of Lake Orion (Lake Orion HS) took fourth in the 500 freestyle with a time of 4:42.57. Sophomore Duncan MacLean of Grand Rapids (East Grand Rapids HS) was fifth in 4:43.63.

Senior Alexander Perkins of Brighton (Howell HS) came in sixth in the 200 individual medley with a swim of 1:56.32. Sophomore Jeff Zita of Holland (Holland Christian HS) was eighth in 1:57.21.
