The Hope College men's swimming & diving team finished first at a quad meet hosted by Wheaton (Illinois) College on Saturday, totaling 576 points.
The Flying Dutchmen came in 45 points ahead of runner-up Lake Forest (Illinois). Kalamazoo (503) took third, followed by Wheaton (436).
Sophomore Jean-Luc Miralda of Tegucigalpa, Honduras (Honduras American), won 3-meter diving for Hope with a score of 311.15 points. Teammate Kevin Franz, a freshman from Mundelein, Illinois (Mundelein HS), was second with 240.95 points.
Miralda also was runner-up in 1-meter diving with a score of 274.35 points. Franz was third with 229.5 points.
Freshman Charlie Emmert of Grand Blanc, Michigan (Flint Powers Catholic HS), placed second in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2 minutes, 00.3 seconds and third in the 200 freestyle. Emmert is pictured.
Junior Jeff Zita of Holland, Michigan (Holland Christian HS), took third in the 200 breaststroke with a swim of 2:14.84.
Junior Duncan MacLean of Grand Rapids, Michigan (East Grand Rapids HS), came in third in the 1,000 freestyle with a swim of 10:25.47.
The Flying Dutchmen clocked a third-place time in the 400 freestyle relay. Trevor Billinghurst, Christopher Waechter, Samuel Gallmeyer and Ryan Johnson went 3:14.40.
Hope returns to action on Saturday, Jan. 24, when the Flying Dutchmen travel to Calvin for a 1 p.m. dual meet.
