Two Hope Men's Divers Excel At Grand Valley State Invitational

Two Hope College divers recorded NCAA Division III Championship-qualifying scores during the Grand Valley State University Diving Invitational on Saturday in Allendale.

Sophomore Jean-Luc Miralda of Tegucigalpa, Honduras (Honduras American HS), accomplished the feat in 1- and 3-meter diving, while freshman Kevin Franz of Mundelein, Illinois (Mundelein HS), did it in 3-meter diving.

Divers need two national-qualifying scores during the regular season to qualify for the NCAA Diving Zones on February 27-28 at the University of Chicago. Miralda previously had qualified for zones.

Miralda took second in both events. He posted an 11-dive score of 454.40 points in 3-meter diving to finish runner-up out of nine divers. GVSU's Tyler Keelean won with 546.55 points.

In 1-meter diving, Miralda was second out of nine with an 11-dive total of 446.3 points. Keelean won with 517.70 points.

Franz was third in 3-meter diving with his first national-qualifying score of the season at 446.55 points. He will look to quaify during the February 11-14 MIAA Championships Hope is hosting at Holland Community Aquatic Center.

Franz came in sixth in 1-meter diving with 418.10 points.

Freshman Kyle Weck of Marshall, Michigan (Marshall HS), placed seventh in both events with 368.6 points in 1-meter diving and 355.55 points in 3-meter diving.

Hope returns to action on February 11-14 at the MIAA Championships at Holland Community Aquatic Center.
