Senior Duncan MacLean of Grand Rapids, Michigan (East Grand Rapids HS) finished seventh in the 1,650-yard freestyle for the Hope College men's swimming & diving team's best effort at the Wheaton Invitational on Saturday.
MacLean, pictured, clocked a time of 16 minutes, 49.73 seconds. Freshman Seth DeWitt of Hudsonville, Michigan (Hudsonville HS) took eighth in the event at 16:59.34.
The Flying Dutchmen placed fifth out of six teams in the two-day event with 292 points.
Hope posted a seventh-place swim in the 400 freestyle relay. Junior Ryan Johnson of Milford, Michigan (International Academy), senior Samuel Gallmeyer of Grand Rapids, Michigan (East Grand Rapids HS), senior Trevor Billinghurst of Spring Lake, Michigan (Spring Lake HS) and junior Jonathon Maat of Holland, Michigan (Holland HS) had a time of 3:11.12.
Johnson took eighth in the 50 freestyle with a swim of 21.26.
Hope was eighth in the 200 medley relay. Junior Christian Otteman of Zeeland, Michigan (Zeeladn East HS), Maat, senior Nathan Rommel of Overland Park, Kansas (Blue Valley NW HS) and Gallmeyer had a time of 1:37.79.
The Flying Dutchmen are until for the rest of 2015. Their next meet is January 9 vs. Calvin at Kresge Natatorium.
