Hope College's Kevin Franz set a school record in 1-meter diving during the Michigan Illinois Quad on Saturday at Holland Community Aquatic Center.

The sophomore from Mundelein, Illinois (Mundelein HS) recorded a score of 296.85 points to pass the previous mark of 287.40 set by teammate Jean Luc Miralda earlier this season.

Franz finished second in the event. Hope finished third with 460 points. Kalamazoo won the meet with 577.5 points, while Wheaton, Illinois took second with 506 points and Lake Forest, Illinois was fourth with 454.5.

The Flying Dutchmen took first in two events.

Hope won the 400-yard freestyle relay as junior Jonathon Maat of Holland, Michigan (Holland HS), senior Samuel Gallmeyer of Grand Rapids, Michigan (East Grand Rapids HS), senior Trevor Billinghurst of Spring Lake, Michigan (Spring Lake HS) and senior Duncan MacLean of Grand Rapids, Michigan (East Grand Rapids HS) recorded a time of 3 minutes, 15.44 seconds.

Miralda won 3-meter diving. The junior from Tegucigalpa, Honduras (Honduras American HS) totaled a score of 296.95. Franz was third at 274.60.

Senior Taylor Hatfield of Coloma, Michigan (St. Joseph HS) posted a second-place effort in the 100 freestyle of 49.37. Gallmeyer came in third at 49.48.

Junior Christian Otteman of Zeeland, Michigan (Zeeland East HS) took third in the 200 individual medley with a swim of 2:01.08.

Otteman was fourth in the 200 backstroke at 2:01.10.

Hatfield and Billinghurst placed third and fourth, respectively, in the 50 freestyle. Hatfield clocked a time of 22.47. Billinghurst went 22.52.

MacLean and freshman Seth DeWitt of Hudsonville, Michigan (Hudsonville HS) finished third and fourth, respectively, in the 1,000 freestyle. MacLean went 10:24.83, while DeWitt had a swim of 10:25.10.

The Flying Dutchmen return to action on Saturday, Jan. 23 at Albion for a 1 p.m. dual meet.
