Junior Ryan Johnson of Milford, Michigan (International Academy) finished first in two events to lead the Hope College men's swimming & diving team in a 106-33 win at Alma on Saturday.
The Flying Dutchmen completed the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association dual meet season with a 2-3 record. Hope next will compete at the February 17-20 MIAA Championships hosted by Calvin.
Johnson clocked the best effort in the 200-yard individual medley at 2 minutes, 5.78 seconds and the 500 freestyle at 5:09.86.
Junior Christian Otteman of Zeeland, Michigan (Zeeland HS) posted the fastest time in the 200 freestyle at 1:51.76.
Freshman Brian Brown of Lemont, Illinois (Brother Rice HS) finished first in the 50 freestyle at 25.31.
Senior Duncan MacLean of Grand Rapids, Michigan (East Grand Rapids HS) won the 100 butterfly in 56.72. He edged teammate Danny Sullivan of Columbus, Ohio (Upper Arlington HS) by three one-hundredths of a second.
Junior Jonathon Maat of Holland, Michigan (Holland HS) took first in the 100 backstroke at 59.30.
Hope won the 400 medley relay. Sophomore Joseph Watson of Grand Rapids, Michigan (Catholic Central HS), sophomore Charlie Emmert of Grand Blanc, Michigan (Flint Powers Catholic HS), freshman John Hackley of Wilmette, Illinois (New Trier HS) and senior Troy VanPortfliet of Grand Rapids, Michigan (Grand Rapids Christian HS) went 4:06.87.
