Hope Men's Swimming 4th In 800 Freestyle Relay To Open MIAA Championships

The Hope College men's swimming & diving team placed fourth in the 800-yard freestyle relay to start the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Championships on Wednesday.

It was the only scoring event during the first day of the four-day meet at Calvin College.

Junior Ryan Johnson of Milford, Michigan (International Academy), senior Duncan MacLean of Grand Rapids, Michigan (East Grand Rapids HS), freshman Josh Meade of Kentwood, Michigan (East Kentwood HS) and sophomore Charlie Emmert of Grand Blanc, Michigan (Flint Powers Catholic HS) recorded a 800 freestyle relay time of 6 minutes, 55.22 seconds.

The Flying Dutch earned 30 points and trail Calvin (40), Albion (34) and Kalamazoo (32). Olivet (28) is fifth.

The meet continues on Thursday with 10 a.m. preliminaries and 5:30 p.m. finals.
