A "tight-knit" group of seniors on the Hope College men's swimming & diving team enjoyed their final home dual meet together with an 88-39 win against Alma on Saturday at Kresge Natatorium.
Five seniors were honored before the meet: diver Jean-Luc Miralda of Tegucigalpa, Honduras (American), and swimmers Ryan Johnson of Milford, Michigan (International), Christian Otteman of Zeeland, Michigan (East), Danny Sullivan of Columbus, Ohio (Upper Arlington), and Trevor Wagoner of Hixson, Tennessee (McCallie HS).
"It is a pretty tight-knit group. It is a great group of guys," Miralda told the Holland Sentinel. "At home, I was a one-man team, so having a team around has been something special."
Otteman placed first in two events in his final home meet: 100-yard backstroke in 56.79 seconds and the 400 individual medley at 4:22.95.
Sullivan won the 100 butterfly in 55.57.
Wagoner teamed with junior Joseph Watson of Grand Rapids, Michigan (Catholic Central), sophomore John Hackley of Wilmette, Illinois (New Trier) and sophomore Josh Meade of Kentwood, Michigan (East Kentwood) for a first-place 200 freestyle relay that when 1:36.10.
Junior Charlie Emmert of Grand Blanc, Michigan (Flint Powers Catholic) clocked the fastest times in both the 50 freestyle in 22.42 and the 100 backstroke at 56.79.
Junior Mike Wurster of Indianapolis, Indiana (Brebeuf Jesuit) won the 100 freestyle in 50.92.
Sophomore Seth DeWitt of Hudsonville, Michigan (Hudsonville) finished first in the 500 freestyle at 5:07.73.
Hope's next meet is the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Championships on Wednesday-Saturday, Feb. 15-18 at Holland Community Aquatic Center.
