Diver Jean Luc Miralda Qualifies For NCAA Division III National Meet

The final season for Hope College diver Jean Luc Miralda will finish with him competing against the nation's best.

The senior from Tegucigalpa, Honduras (American HS) earned a trip to next month's NCAA Division III Championship in Woodlands, Texas, by qualifying out of this weekend's regional at Calvin College.

Miralda is one of nine divers from the regional to advance to the NCAA Championship on Wednesday-Saturday, March 15-18.

Miralda placed seventh out of 29 divers on the 1-meter board Saturday with a score of 459.0 points.

On Friday, Miralda came in seventh on the 3-meter board with a total of 489.05 points.

Sophomore Brian Simonich of Highland, Michigan (Milford) was 15th on 3-meter (427.0) and 16th on 1-meter (415.35 points).

Miralda is looking to become the Flying Dutchmen's first All-American in 1-meter diving and the second in 3-meter diving. All-American Jim Mitchell placed fifth in 3-meter diving in 1989.

On the women's side, sophomore Sara Plohetski of South Lyon, Michigan (South Lyon) took 14th out of 20 divers on 1-meter (379.40) and 16th out of 18 divers on 3-meter (381.35).
