Men's Swim/Dive Victory Over Kalamazoo Powered by Nine Event Wins

Daniel Clyde poses for a portrait Daniel Keith poses for a portrait Grant Williams poses for a portrait Three individuals won multiple events for the Hope College men's swimming and diving team on Saturday and led the Flying Dutchmen to a MIAA dual meet victory over Kalamazoo College. Hope defeated the Hornets, 156-144, in Kalamazoo on victories in nine events.

Sophomore Daniel Keith of Saline (Saline), pictured middle, was victorious in three events, winning the 100 backstroke in 53.54, the 200 backstroke in 1:58.12, and 100 butterfly in 51.34.

Junior Daniel Clyde of Ann Arbor (Ann Arbor Huron), pictured right, swam to two wins in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:48.11 and in the 100 freestyle with a 49.01.

Grant Williams of Grand Rapids (East Grand Rapids), pictured left, won both the one-meter and three-meter diving events. The sophomore took the three-meter victory with a score of 293.90 points while his score of 313.95 points on the one-meter board set a new Hope dual-meet record. Williams broke Jean-Luc Miralda's one-meter dual score of 308.50 set in 2016.

Williams win in those two events topped Hope's 1-2-3 diving finishes. Senior Brian Simonich of Highland (Milford) came in second on both boards, scoring 284.40 points on the one-meter and 278.40 on the three-meter. Freshman Kamaron Wilcox of Grand Rapids (Forest Hills Central) took two third-place finishes with 202.85 points on the one-meter board and 207.40 points on the three-meter board.

Also winning an event for Hope was senior Jeff Engle of Kalamazoo (Home School) who finished the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:06.19.

The 400 freestyle relay team of freshman Andrew Dwan of Bay City (John Glenn), freshman Nick Weigle of Grandville (Grandville), Keith and Clyde concluded the meet with another Hope win, touching the wall in 3:13.56.

The Flying Dutchmen swimmers compete next against Albion at home in the Dow Center on Saturday, January 26 at 1:00 p.m. The Hope divers will also compete on Saturday versus Albion but will also travel to Grand Valley State University on Friday, January 25 to take on the Lakers at 1:00 p.m.
