With time running out, Griffin Brown delivered for the Hope College men's soccer team.
The sophomore midfielder recorded his first career goal with 48 seconds remaining in regulation and helped the Flying Dutchmen earn a 1-1 tie at Trine University on Wednesday.
Hope (8-2-2 overall) remained unbeaten in MIAA play but slipped out of first place with a 2-0-1 league record. The Flying Dutchmen moved up to 19th in this week's D3soccer.com poll.
Trine is now 6-6-1 overall and 1-1-1 against MIAA opponents.
Brown (Livonia, Michigan / Stevenson HS), pictured, scored off an assist from junior forward Trevor Durfee (Belmont, Michigan / Rockford).
It was Durfee's second career assist and his first of the season.
Despite outshooting Trine, the Flying Dutchmen trailed for most of the second half.
Tyler Murphy's 10th goal of the season put the Thunder on the board 10 minutes, 46 seconds into the second half.
Hope outshot Trine by a 24-8 margin.
Trine goalkeeper Troy Saylor made 11 saves.
Hope goalkeeper Daniel Hesselbein finished with three saves.
The Flying Dutchmen's next game is Saturday, Oct. 16, at 2 p.m. vs. Olivet College at Olivet High School.
