The Hope College men's swimming and diving team opened its 2021-22 season with two wins and four runner-up finishes at the non-scoring Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Relays on Friday at Calvin University.
In winning the 200-yard medley relay, sophomore Ben Catton of Holland, Michigan (Holland Christian), junior Jack Muller of Queensland, Australia (Meridan State), sophomore Conor East of North Farmington, Michigan (North Farmington), and junior Gabe Boonstra of Hudsonville, Michigan (Hudsonville), pictured left to right, clocked in at 1:35.88.
In capturing the 100-yard butterfly relay, Catton, East, freshman Dallas Fisher of Highland, Michigan (Detroit Catholic Central) and freshman Joel Cummins of Osceola, Indiana (Penn) posted a time of 41.27.

In the 200-yard breaststroke relay by freshman Christian Dunaitis of Commerce Township, Michigan (Detroit Catholic Central), junior Ted Lockett of Cincinnati, Ohio (St. Xavier), sophomore Kyle Langdon of Holland (West Ottawa) and sophomore Reilly Lagrand of Grand Rapids, Michigan (Catholic Central) with a time of 1:52.97;
In the 200-yard butterfly relay by Catton, freshman Colin Kalkman of Holland (Holland Christian), sophomore Jake Peterson of San Antonia, Texas (Churchill), and Cummins with a time of 1:33.79;
In the 100-yard breaststroke relay by Lockett, Langdon, Lagrand, and Muller with a time of 50.42; and
In the 100-yard freestyle relay by junior JT Nissen of Spring, Texas (Klein Collins), freshman Chris Honsberger of Zeeland, Michigan (Zeeland East), freshman Alex Boersma (West Olive, Michigan (West Ottawa), and junior Jackson Uyl of DeWitt, Michigan (DeWitt) with a time of 39.92.
Head coach Jake Taber will split his teams to compete at two meets on Saturday, Oct. 23 – at Olivet College at 1 p.m. and at the Hillsdale Relays at 2 p.m.
